Providing Parenting Educational Services to Families in Massachusetts

COURT REQUIRED PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Massachusetts Probate and Family Courts require that divorcing parents with children under the age of nineteen take a parenting education class prior to finalizing their divorce. The Family Healthy Choices parenting education programs are designed to assist parents in understanding the effects of separation or divorce on children and provides strategies for effective communication and co-parenting. The curriculum utilized in FHC parenting education programs are approved by the Court.

Our programs provide opportunities for participants to develop a conceptual understanding of the emotional stages experienced by children and adults during the divorce process, the impact of parental response and behaviors on their children, and how the developmental needs of children may affect their emotional and behavioral response to this transition in the life of their family.

Participants are provided specific strategies to increase their skills in conflict management, negotiation, and effective communication with both the other parent and their children. The curriculum also includes opportunities for participants to explore common areas of conflict for divorcing parents and to learn effective strategies for addressing these concerns.

Knowledgeable and experienced professionals who are specifically trained to present this curriculum facilitate each FHC parenting education program.

Family Healthy Choices Inc.

FHC provides two options for parent education programs both of which result in a certificate required by the Probate and Family Court for divorcing parents. The programs at MGH and Tufts Medical Center are conducted through two classroom sessions, each 2 ½ hours long. At the end of class on the second day participants, receive their certificate.

Alternatively, parents may elect to participate in an online and classroom option. This option is offered at Tufts Medical Center, Danvers Public Library, and at Hope Community Church in Newburyport. Parents must watch the 2-hour online KidCare video produced by Parent Education Group and then attend a 3-hour classroom session to receive their certificate.

Family Healthy Choices offers parenting education classes for divorcing parents.
